Attractions near University of California San Diego

Within the vicinity of the University of California in San Diego, California, there are many attractions nearby in which one can visit.

The Landmark Theatre La Jolla Village Cinema is located only a few blocks from the university. The theatre has 4 screens, offers a wide variety of films including most recent, and has delicious concession choices such as gourmet chocolate, coffee beverages, and the best popcorn around. The village also has well-known restaurants nearby offering pizza, a deli and bakery, and steak.

The La Jolla Symphony & Chorus is associated with the University of California. It performs six concerts a year at the university’s Mandeville Auditorium. The La Jolla Symphony and Chorus is made up of volunteers from the community, university students and faculty, and professional musicians. It also provides educational opportunities for the children of the city.

Torrey Pines Gliderport is the place to go if one wants to experience paragliding over the coastal cliffs of Torrey Pines. Also offered is a flight school with instruction and certification in paragliding and hang gliding, equipment sales, and delicious food at the Cliff Hanger Café.

The Birch Aquarium at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography is located at the University of California in San Diego. The aquarium offers current exhibits such as ‘There’s Something About Seahorses’; major exhibits such as the ‘Hall of Fishes’ and the ‘Tide Pool Plaza’ where visitors can get a hands-on experience with such ocean life as starfish, hermit crabs, and lobsters; and live exhibits of fish and invertebrate specimens. The Splash! Café offers beverages and snacks while souvenirs can be bought at the gift shop.

The La Jolla Playhouse is a theater offering plays and musicals such as “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and “Notes from Underground.” The playhouse offers a restaurant and outdoor patio for dining and catering.
