Shopping near University of California San Diego
The University of California, San Diego is conveniently located in the scenic, industrious area of La Jolla, San Diego. The nearest commercial center, La Jolla Village Square, is a leisurely 10-minute walk from the university's entrance. La Jolla Village Square is geared towards university students and features modest clothing stores, such as Ross, Marshalls, and Tillys. Recently, a DSW shoe store was built on the top level expansion above Ross. La Jolla Village Square is not only limited to clothing and apparel. A multi-culture store, World Market, is situated next to a large movie theater. World Market offers international products (food, clothes, gifts, etc.) that are not easily found in American stores.
One of San Diego's top rated malls, University Town Center (referred to by locals as UTC), is a five-to-ten minute, car ride Eastbound from campus. While UTC boasts the largest variety of stores, the well-engineered layout creates a simple, homogenous feel to a shopper's experience. Stores at UTC range from discount to high-end, making it an ideal shopping location for all walks of life. Perhaps the busiest, most in-demand store at the UTC mall is the Apple store. The Apple store offers a variety of Apple products (i-Pods, MACs, etc.) and is complete with the "Genius Bar", which is a group of technological specialists available to answer questions for free. In addition to excellent shopping, the mall also has an indoor ice skating rink below the food court.
If this isn't enough, downtown La Jolla is a 15-minute drive South of UCSD. Downtown La Jolla isn't so much of a shopping "center" as it is a series of intersecting streets lined with upscale boutiques, art galleries, and designer fashion. If gifts or souvenirs are on the buyer's agenda, La Jolla Shores is the place to be. Gift stores are on nearly every street corner and souvenir vendors can always be spotted along the shore.
