Transportation near University of California San Diego

The University of California San Diego campus is about a 20 minute drive north of downtown San Diego on Interstate highway 5 near the Pacific coast. The cities of La Jolla and Torrey Pines are nearby.

There is a network of free shuttles, which transports passengers from UCSD to all campus locations plus related off-campus areas, and the entire shuttle fleet is equipped with newer low-emission vehicles. The shuttles are the Arriba shuttle, Nobel shuttle, campus loop shuttle, East/Regents, Hillcrest/Campus, Hillcrest/ Old Town, Mesa Housing, and Torrey Pines Center.

The free Coaster Shuttle runs from UCSD to the Sorrento Valley Coaster train stop. The Coaster train runs from the Santa Fe depot in downtown San Diego to the Oceanside Transit Center and is operated by the North County Transit District.

The Scripps Institution of Oceanography free shuttle connects UCSD with the Birch Aquarium, which promotes conservation of and research of Pacific Ocean inhabitants with public scientific exhibits.

Six San Diego City Transit buses serve the University Transit Center, which is also served by North County Transit District. Airport transportation is provided from Lindbergh field to UCSD by taxi, San Diego City Transit buses with a transfer in downtown San Diego, and several airport shuttle services. The Amtrak rail service between San Diego and Los Angeles stops at Solana Beach, which is the closest, stop to the UCSD campus, and can be reached by North County Transit District bus.

The Greyhound bus depot in downtown San Diego can be reached by San Diego City Transit bus service. If arriving to campus by car take Interstate highway 5, and get off at either the La Jolla Village drive, Gilman drive, or Genesee avenue exit. Bicycle racks are available on San Diego City Transit buses and trolley, North County Transit District buses and the Coaster train.
